Will the ASUS Eee Tablet cost $599?

Back in May, ASUS unveiled their upcoming Eee Tablet: An 8" e-reader with a monochrome, non-backlit LCD display (1024x768), 2Mp camera, microSD slot and very accurate note-taking abilities. Now there's a report over at Digitimes that ASUS will launch the tablet in October 2010, for $599.

This is a bit hard to believe - it's a very high price for an e-reader with an LCD and no content support. Consider that Amazon's new 9.7" Amazon DX Graphite costs $379.
