BenQ hopes to sell 300,000 e-readers next year

Digitimes reports that BenQ hopes to sell 300,000 e-readers in 2010, out of which 50,000 will be in Taiwan and 200,000 in china.

BenQ will start selling their e-reader, the nReader early next year in Japan, China and Taiwan. They will also launch an e-book store in January. 

BenQ are also working on a color e-reader, which they say will be released in 2H 2010.

AUO - over 10 million e-readers will ship in 2010

AUO estimates the worldwide shipments of e-readers will top 10 million units in 2010. AUO hopes to ship 1-2 million e-paper panels in 2010.

China's Hawang Technology is now the world's 2nd largest e-reader producer

Hawang Technology, China's leading producer of electronic book readers (e-reader), surpassed Sony in monthly sales to become the world's second largest e-reader producer after Amazon.com. They are now selling 30,000 monthly readers, and hope to soon become the world's largest e-reader producer in 2010.

Gartner says E-readers will take off in the holiday season of 2010

Gartner predicts that e-reader sales will take off in the 2010 holiday season. Currently the lowest priced e-readers go for around $199. The price should drop to around $99 to gain 'significant consumer traction'.

Gartner thinks that longer-term the future is bright. Publishers should be bullish in the digital distribution of e-books, magazines and newspapers.

10% of Americans have heard of the new B&N Nook eReader

A recent study conducted by Russell Research, a national research firm, indicates that 10% of Americans have heard of Nook, the eReader released last week by Barnes & Noble. 30% have heard of the Amazon Kindle.

Forrester Research - 3 million e-readers will be sold in the US in 2009, and 6 million in 2010

Forrester Research thinks that e-reader sales in the US will reach 3 million in 2009, and over 6 million in 2010. They think that e-readers will be a 'breakout success' in the holiday season, with almost a million units sold.

Retrevo predicts strong e-reader sales in the upcoming holidays

According to a study done by Retrevo, 1 in 5 conusmers plans to purchase an e-reader this year. It will be more popular than MP3 players. The most popular reader? The Amazon Kindle, and the Sony readers are second.
