B&N's Nook Color is now shipping for pre-order customers, gets a good review

The Nook Color is now shipping for pre-order customers. It's also available in "very limited" quantities in some retail stores. The Nook Color costs $249.

Engadget has posted a nice review of the Nook Color. And they seem to like it: they say that if you want an e-reader but also want to read color magazines and newspaper, then the Nook Color is the "first viable option we've seen that can support your habit".

Amazon now offers 70% revenue share to newspapers and magazine publishers

Amazon announced today that they are now offering 70% revenue share to Magazine and Newsletter publishers on Kindle devices. To qualify for the 70-percent royalty terms, newspapers and magazines must satisfy several customer experience requirements, including:

  • Customers can read the title on all Kindle devices and applications.
  • Customers can read the title in all geographies for which the publisher has rights.

New research: US E-reader content market to reach $33 billion in 2020

mediaIDEAS has published a new research into the growth and value of the US market for e-readers paid content. According to the report, at the end of 2014, the US user base of e-readers will have grown aggressively to nearly 45 million, and the market for all categories of content sold for these devices will have increased to approximately $10.86 billion. And, by 2020, this e-reader content market will have risen to more than $33 billion.

In 2010, they say that the content market will be around $460 million - mostly e-books. Later on, the availability of large-format and high-quality color e-paper readers will promote the sale of digital magazines and newspapers.

E-Reader owners love print and digital magazines

According to a new study by Mediamark Research & Intelligence e-reader owners are big fans of magazines. In fact, 91% of e-reader owners read print or digital magazines (compared to 84% of all US adults). They also read more magazines than the general population.

A WSJ iPad subscription will cost $17.99 a month

We're starting to hear about Magazine deals coming to the iPad. Engadget reports that a Wall Street Journal subscription for the iPad will cost $17.99. The print version of WSJ, by the way, costs $29 per month. Esquire magazine will cost $2.99 per month (with no ads) and Men's Health will cost $4.99.

Color E Ink readers to appear in 2011, faster E Ink to arrive in 2012-13

Sri Peruvemba from E Ink has talked to PC Magazine, and he gives some very interesting information. He expects color E Ink to arrive soon, and devices based on this technology would ship in the beginning of 2011. This color will be more like the color you would see in a newspaper, and not like an LCD display. We can expect more on this from E Ink at the SID show in May.

Sri also reveals that they are working on much-faster E Ink displays, but it can take around 2-3 years for such technology to show up in shipping products...

Apple is talking with HarperCollins on an e-book deal?

While everybody is waiting to see what will the Apple January 27th event bring us, the WSJ is reporting that Apple are talking with publishing company HarperCollins to bring e-books to the Apple tablet/e-reader device.
