The B&N Nook - not a Kindle killer...Several blogs now have posted reviews of the new B&N Nook. They all like it, but say that it's still not a Kindle-killer. Here's Engadget's take - "In the end, the Nook is an intriguing product launched by a powerful force in the world of booksellers, but the initial offering feels long on promises and short on delivery. With the right software revisions, the Nook could be a tsunami, but as it stands right now, it's only a mild swell". And here's what CNet has to say - "The Nook's extra features make it a worthy and enticing alternative to the Kindle, but Barnes & Noble will have to work out the device's kinks before it can reach its full potential". The Nook is available from Barnes & Noble's site, for 259$. It will ship in January.
Kindle is the number one selling item on AmazonAmazon says that the Kindle is the bestselling product - across all categories. There aren't any real numbers, but that's great news for Amazon. Amazon are selling two versions of the Kindle: The Kindle 2 (6" display, 259$) and the Kindle DX (larger 9.7" display, 489$).

They say that this upgrade is a result of a six month development and testing program. Sony and B&N sees e-reader delays, Amazon may benefitPVI's chairman said that their production lines are "fully booked' till the end of 2009, and running at full capacity. Both Sony and Barnes & Noble may have to delay their e-book readers. Market sources in Taiwan say that Amazon has enough stock for the holidays, and may benefit from this shortage of E Ink displays. China's Hawang Technology is now the world's 2nd largest e-reader producerHawang Technology, China's leading producer of electronic book readers (e-reader), surpassed Sony in monthly sales to become the world's second largest e-reader producer after Amazon.com.
