Pearson invests $90 million in Nook, holds a 5% stake
Pearson (the owner of Financial Times) bought a 5% stake in Nook, B&N's digital book venture. Pearson has an option to up the stake to 10% in the future. Following this recent investment, B&N holds 78.2% and Microsoft holds 16.8% of Nook.
Pearson paid $89.5 million for the 5% (plus the option), which means the total valuation is about $1.8 billion, which is about the same valuation B&N placed on the Nook when it was spun-off in May 2012 (Microsoft invested $300 for a 17.6% stake).
