Sony has decided to abandon the US e-reader market and they will not sell the PRS-T3 e-reader in the US. Sony instead will focus their efforts on Canada, Europe, and Japan.
The PRS-T3 (an upgrade to the PRS-T2) is a 6" 758x1024 touch E Ink reader. It includes an integrated snap cover (with a built-in LED light) and Quick Charge which should charge your reader within 3 minutes (but not to full 100% power). Other features include Wi-Fi, 2GB of storage (and a microSD slot), ePub and PDF support.
4.8" E Ink
The CoverReader is a smart-cover for mobile phones that adds an e-reader functionality via a 4.8" E Ink display. It integrates with the Android OS to allow you to easily view books and information on the E Ink panel.
The CoverReader will launch soon for Samsung's Galaxy S4, and the company plans to develop more versions for more Samsung, HTC and Sony phones.
6" E Ink Pearl HD (1204x758)
PocketBook's Basic Touch is a 6" E Ink (Pearl HD, 1204x758) e-reader that features a capacitive multi-sensor film touch panel. The Basic Touch features a 1Ghz CPU, 4GB of storage, microSD slot, Wi-Fi and dropbox integration.
The Basic Touch will launch in Europe in October 2013 for €99.
6" 758×1024 E Ink
Sony's PRS-T3 (an upgrade to the PRS-T2) is a 6" 758x1024 touch E Ink reader. The PRS-T3 is shipping in the Japan and will launch in Canada and Europe too, but not in the US.
6" E Ink Carta
Amazon second-gen Kindle Paperwhite (2013) has a 25% faster CPU, longer lasting battery and uses E Ink's newest Carta display for 50% contrast improvement and a 20% improvement in reflectance (which means more "whiteness"). Amazon also upgraded the front-light technology and made it a bit lighter. The Paperwhite 2013 also has some new software features - social integration via Goodreads, Vocabulary Builder (to build flashcards based on word searchers) and the Kindle Page flip which allows you to flip pages without losing your current reading place.
The Paperwhite 2013 will cost the same as the previous Paperwhite model: $119 for the Wi-Fi sponsored model, $139 for the ad-free Wi-Fi model and $189 for the 3G version. You can now pre-order the new e-reader.
6" E Ink
The Kobo Aura is a "luxury e-reader" similar to the Aura HD, only smaller and with updated software. It's got a 6" E Ink display which features fast refresh rates (Kobo developed this together with E Ink) and new front light technology. The device is only 8.1 mm thick and weighs 172 grams and it's got a 1 Ghz CPU, 4GB of storage and a microSD slot.
The Aura is now available for pre-order for $150.
